"TRASH TREK" begins August 25, 2015!

Aloha Coaches,

The 2015 FIRST LEGO League season, Trash Trek, is fast approaching. Please take the time now to learn about season requirements and the events we have planned for you.


  1. Registration    

    1. National registration starts on May 5th.  Cost per team: $225

    2. Field Set up Kit:  $75

    3. Hawai’i Event Registration (only for Hawai’i events) opens Sept. 12 and closes Oct 3.

      1. District Event Registration: Fee $50. Teams attending the Sept. 12 Kickoff may register In-person.  Otherwise, online registration begins the same day.

      2. a $5 processing charge is added if paying with school purchase order.

      3. Hawai’i Championship Registration (applies only to teams advancing from a District event): $125 per team.  Teams may register up to five business days following their district event.

  1. Junior FIRST LEGO League [JrFLL] Hawai’i registration is $60 per team.

  2. Training for Teams

    1. Teams are invited to host FLL “Basic Training” Workshops for new teams

    2. If your team is experienced and willing to share, please consider volunteering to host a training session for newer, younger teams. Please contact us if your team is willing share your knowledge and help other teams succeed.


  1. District Tournaments

    1. We are currently seeking host sites in West O’ahu.  If you are able to offer your school or site and a venue, please contact me directly.  Perks of hosting a district tournament include one team slot to the championship to be assigned at the coordinator’s discretion. All registration fees for that event go directly to the host school to cover tournament related expenses.

    2. District Tournaments will take place on each of the following Saturdays:

      1. Oct. 31
      2. Nov. 7
      3. Nov. 14

  1. Key Dates

    1. Aug. 25: Trash Trek Challenge is unveiled

    2. Sept. 12, 8:30a to 11:30a, HFLL Kickoff  at Punahou School, Twigg-Smith Auditorium

    3. Dec. 05: Hawai'i FLL Championship at Blaisdell Exhibition Hall


  1. Important Reminders:

    1. A link to the Hawai'i Registration site will be posted on this site on Kickoff Day, Sept. 13.

    2. Payment of registration fees may be via Paypal, personal check, or credit card.

    3. Purchase Orders: If you absolutely must pay with a school purchase order, submit your requests early to ensure that payment is received before your tournament date. Teams with unpaid fees are not eligible for awards.

    4. Tournament Selection: When registering for Hawai'i events, whether online or in-person, be prepared to select your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice of tournament location. Also, be prepared to submit the names and contact info for two individuals who will volunteer on behalf of your team. (see below)

    5. Team Volunteers: Recruit volunteers from among your team parents and supporters.  Note, Judges and Referees may not be parents of team members.  Volunteers are our lifeblood and those jobs are always high on our list of “must fills”.  If you can secure volunteers early, it will be easier for us to make the tournaments work.


  1. Volunteer Information Management System [VIMS] and Team Information Management System [TIMS] 

                Good news! FLL's online systems for managing team and volunteer data are continuing to evolve and improve. Those of you who were screened last year do not need to be re-screened this year.  You still will need to indicate that you will abide by the Youth Protection Policy (YPP), but you (and others who will register this year) should find the process streamlined and user-friendly.
